Our Story

Hichki is a Maine-based clothing studio founded by partners and life-long friends, Emma Iverson, a trained master tailor, and Amya Bhalla, a multi-media designer and artist. We joined forces because of our shared desire to wear high-quality non-polyester dresses. Upon inheriting beautiful vintage silk garments from our grandmothers, we discovered how nearly impossible it is to find natural fabrics that stand the test of time in today's market. Together we decided we needed to create the heirloom-quality pieces we wanted ourselves, using only natural fibers such as pure silk, handloom cotton, and linen—absolutely no polyester.

In India, a Hichki (hiccup) is playfully associated with the idea that someone you love is remembering you. We kept our name Hichki because we create garments that are meant to be remembered. We believe that clothes shouldn’t be disposable, they should be vessels for stories and memories that are passed down by loved ones. By using only 100% natural fabrics such as pure silks, organic cottons, and pure cashmere, we craft formal wear and everyday essentials designed to age gracefully alongside you, and eventually be passed on to next generations as heirlooms.

Our Process: We ethically source certified natural materials from trusted vendors in India, the fabric capital of the world, ensuring purity and sustainability, and then craft each garment by hand. We do not engage in mass production of any sort, we pour a lot of care, skill, and dedication in every garment.
